Updated Cakes! Finally!

Welcome Back!

I'd like to welcome back to the blogosphere...ME!  Yes, it's been a long while.  Almost two years!  Lots has happened in the last two years regarding me and my cakes!  I hope you find some of my updated pictures fun!  The above cake was made for a special little girl in Idaho Falls who was turning two! (Obviously) The giraffe, number 2, and the elephant were all hand sculpted from gumpaste.  The cakes are covered in fondant, and the inside of the bottom tier has a really cool leopard print design to match the outside!
I had SO much fun making this cake!  The client gave me the basic theme and let me run with it (which is always my favorite thing to do) and I totally RAN!

I hope to have a basic pricing guide and some ordering information up soon!
I know it's Idaho, and I know we're used to getting cakes on the cheap from Walmart, but rest assured, I will do everything in my power to see to it that you get a delicious cake that is completely personalized to your needs and the needs of your event and is AFFORDABLE!

Here are a few other cakes from our time apart that I wanted to share with you!

The middle two cakes were for my son Ryne and my husband, who loves sushi! ;)
And you can't go wrong with trains and Ninja Turtles!  There were cupcakes to go with both of those cakes that were super cute, too!

Hope you enjoyed this quick update!  I hope to have a Facebook page up and running soon as well as keeping up with this blog!  Feel free to share my blog with friends and family that may be needing a cake in the future!

Sweet Dreams!

Ode to a Turd

So, I know that turds aren't really what you want to see on a blog about cakes, but I just couldn't hold this one in any longer...lol...
This is the lucky recipient of one of my latest cakes:

I give you Mr. Ryan Bunnell.

As well as being an awesome neighbor and friend, Ryan is a bit of a turd.  Most times, he smells like one, too, but that's another story.  So when his lovely wife Anna told me it was his birthday and that he liked German chocolate cake, this is what ensued:

4 Layers of chocolatey goodness...

Topped with German chocolate frosting....

And personalized just for the birthday boy!
But the crowning touch:

Yep, a turdcake.  That's how I roll...
(Don't worry, it's just a Snickers bar...)

And on that note,

Turkey Dinner Cupcakes

Hello, All!

Since I got the October cakes up here, AKA Tiff's wedding cake and Jake's groom's cake, I figured it was time to move on to the November cakes!  First up are the Turkey Dinner Cupcakes from "A Taste of Home" magazine.  These took SO long to make.  Myself and my brother-in-law toughed it out for only 12 of these puppies/turkeys before we threw in the towel...and the icing....and the caramels...

There were so many little details to these, starting with the pretzel stick and caramel legs...

Then making the caramel turkey skins and carefully placing them over a big dollop of frosting and sticking the legs on the turkey...

Tinting the frosted flakes green and placing it as lettuce, cutting the pound cake into tiny cubes for the stuffing, placing the sixlets and putting leaves on them for garnish....

Then dusting all of them with cinnamon to give them that "fresh from the oven" look, and DONE!

Whew!  SO much WORK!  But they turned out great and were a huge hit at the family dinner later that night!
Stay tuned for another special November cake!

Ok, people...REALLY?

Do I have to fork-feed this answer to you?
If this doesn't give it away, nothing but the finished product will.
Look at all the pictures together, and I think you'll be able to guess.
(If not, then my cake skills are certainly lacking...)
One more non-visual hint: if you are a child of the '80's you should get this, c'mon!!!!

I expect a decent, halfway-close guess out of the 3 followers I have!!!

Another Hint...

Ok, here's another picture that may help you in your quest to guess the cake!

And, since this one isn't a very big help...

This stuff went on top of the cake...
It was a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting and chocolate fondant!

Can You Guess What's Cookin'?

Ok, I have fallen way behind on posting pictures of my cakes on here.  I know.  It all stems from the fact that my laptop has a stupid hardware issue and I have to upload pictures to my netbook from my camera, from my netbook to my email, from my email to my laptop....etc...etc...AKA-I'm lazy.  Anyhoo, I am now posting a some pictures of a cake I made WAY BACK in October.  The first person to guess what the cake will be after it's decorated gets a 1/2 PRICE COUPON!  That's right, folks!  Get a $40 cake for only $20 with a signed cake contract!  Just leave a comment below and "like" this blog on Facebook!

Better Late Than Never!

So here is the finished product!
This was the wedding cake I did for Tiffany and Jake Neibaur.  The cake was white, with cream cheese frosting and cheesecake fondant.

It was accented with red roses, red ribbon, and strings of fondant pearls.
The bride and groom's monogram was painted on the front middle tier of the cake in silver shimmer dust.

Pictures of the groom's cake to come soon! (As soon as I find them....)

Just a quick update!  I ordered my new "Stress-Free" Supports for Tiffany and Jake's wedding on the 23rd, and I'm crossing my fingers that the ten bucks I paid in shipping gets them here in time!!! Same goes for the Silver Cloud Estates white chocolate flavoring that I ordered, and it's $6.50 in shipping for a 4oz bottle!!!  Yikes!  Here's to a speedy delivery!

Also, I have a new email JUST for my cake stuff and such:

angelcakes.ali@gmail.com

This is the email I will be using to send out information on my cakes and pricing from now on, so if you see this address in your inbox, be sure to open it and mark it NOT SPAM!  Because, it's not, it's CAKE!  (Even though I do have a certain affinity for Spam, but that's a whole other blog...)

Anyway, things seem to be going on schedule, I will be buying my 12" round pan sometime soon, and starting baking by Wednesday or Thursday of next week!
Oh!  And I may be making a heart shaped Halloween cake for the 30th, so I can't wait!  This Halloween season has been busy busy busy for me so far, and I plan to add a few of my "Vampire Bite" cupcakes into the mix, as well as some other good  spooky confections!

Wish List Item #1

Sooo, I was jotting down some plans for a wedding cake due the 23rd of this month, and I came across the most amazing thing that I want SOOOO badly!  http://www.stressfreecakes.com/public/store.html

They are called Stress-Free Supports, and I can't wait to get some for this cake!
The cake is going to be a three tier covered in white fondant.

A three tier version of this!

There will also be a grooms cake that may be a Luigi version of my Mario cake:
Needless to say, I'm SUPER excited about this, and will most likely have to take a couple days off of school to complete this daunting, yet exciting task!
I can't wait!  I will be sure to post pictures of the process and finished product!

Sweet Dreams!

Greetings!

So, summer is almost over for this cake gal, what with school starting in a couple days.  What better way to celebrate than by making a cake for a 1 year-old's birthday party!  Thank you to Keri for the order of this pirate/skulls themed cake tattoo cake! ;)

I really love Duff's Cake Tattoos!  They look SO cool!
They have some really awesome ones, too.

This is the one I used for this cake and my hubby's birthday cake!

One cake for the guests...

...and one JUST for the birthday boy!!!

ALSO........I GOT A NEW CAKE TOY!

My decorating stand!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this!
It makes it sooo easy to decorate and frost the cakes!
I've wanted one for a while now, but I decided I'd better get it since I was doing a lot of round cakes lately.
It spins both directions and even has a lock!  I know, I'm a nerd, but buying this made my day!

Jack's New Home...

Here's some pictures taken of "Jack" in his new home...

This one shows a little more of the detail that the structure provided.

                                                                     The Birthday Girl!

There's a weird shine from the cake board in this one...

So glad everybody enjoyed everything!  I wish I could get pictures like this for all the cakes I deliver! ;)

Ain't NUTHIN' wrong with Jack!...

Helloooooo!

Well, I finished the cake.  Got it delivered at 5:00 on the dot.  Got paid the big bucks and went to eat at Buddy's to celebrate all my hard work!  What a great day!  I think the cake turned out splendidly!  Here's the process in pictures of the cake-makery today!
After leveling the cakes, I added some of the pieces back on to create the structure for the face.

Here is the structure and the picture I was working from.

Crumb coated...
...with rolled fondant to help create the "eyebrow"-like eye sockets.

Rolled out a sheet of white fondant and placed it ever-so-carefully on the face.

Trimmed the edges and smoothed it out.

Recruited my hubby to do some of the scary cutting of the eyes.

Added nostrils and started the fondant on the mouth.

Almost done...just a few more strips of black and a wash with my secret ingredient on the black...

Adding the final touches and words on the cake board and...

Voila!

There you have it, folks!  Complete with "Burton's Nightmare" font for the piping and everything!

I was really happy with the way this cake turned out.  I'm always so nervous that the structure of the cake underneath won't translate to what I want it to look like after I put the fondant on, but this worked out SO WELL!  I really enjoyed making this cake, even under the time constraints.  This is a cake I've been wanting to make since last Halloween.  My husband and I are HUGE Nightmare Before Christmas fans (well, Tim Burton fans all around) and I made the coolest homemade Sally costume a couple years ago!  Thanks to Omar and Victor for being thoughtful friends and ordering this cake from me, and thanks to Bridget for being born so I could make her this bad-ass cake!  I hope they enjoyed seeing/eating it as much as I did making it!

CAKE SPECS:
Golden Vanilla cake, 2-9x2 layers
Creamy Vanilla frosting between layers and crumb coat
Wilton white and black fondant flavored with Wilton clear vanilla extract
Black piping gel for lettering on cake board
